It would be great if I could get Windows to ask me which version of Rhino with which to open an R7 project or at least default to the version it’s saved as.
I’m working on both Rhino 7 and Rhino 8 projects which for now need to stay as R7 and R8 respectively. I notice that when I double click on a Rhino 7 file it automatically opens to Rhino 8. I’m likely to errantly edit an R7 project in R8 and not be able to use it in R7 any more. I believe I may get a warning on attempting to save a formerly R7 project whether I’d like to save as R7 or R8 (maybe someone can confirm that) which would help, but I’d like to keep each project within its versions throughout.
If you want to choose which Rhino version to use to open a .3dm file, right click the file instead of double-clicking it, and select the ‘Open with’ option.
If you always want by default to open R7 files with Rhino 7 and R8 files with Rhino 8 (except where you use the above override) you can use my RhinoFeeder utility, as found here: Open Rhino 8 files - open with problem - #5 by jeremy5.
The .ini file in that link will likely need updating if you want to cater for the current WIP as well.
