Select locked to entire model only

Hi friends, I must have unknowingly changed some setting.

I can only select whole objects regardless of where I left click, how I left click and regardless of any modifier keys used. As an example, if I create a solid cube, I cannot SHIFT + CNTL + Left Click to select one surface. I cannot select an edge, a surface, a vertex. I CAN select control points. Everything was working normally through 90% of the Water Bottle video tutorial, but at some point things changed. Kinda dead in the water.

What could I have done?

Hello - on Mac it’s Cmd-Shift click… for subobjects.

The water glass tutorial told me to CNTL-SHFT click. It must be a Windows tutorial.
