Select just curves when over a surface such as PictureFrame how?

Hi,
V5
unless I have the surface layer locked, when I pick curves traced over a picture it us giving me choice of surface or curve, or if I have grouped some construction lines to the image, a choice of curve or group.

how can I get it to pick the curves and not ask if I want the other item under the cursor each time ?

Something I should have asked of yonks ago but always persist with picking from that list, !

Cheers

This is why the Lock command exists, and why the ability to Lock layers exists. If you don’t want certain things to be pickable, lock them. I run into this all the time, too - tracing pictures is a common workflow for me. While it’s easy for a human to tell “oh, you just drew this curve over that surface, and so clicking on it makes sense” a picture is just a textured surface.

The “choose one object” menu in Rhino is one of the oldest things we wrote. It’s not perfect, but we’ve never come up with a better way to handle ambiguous picks.

Another possibility is to use selection filters: just enable selection of curves; but this is just another twiddle that’s about has hard as locking, and has other side effects.

Hi,
Where is the ‘choose one object’ menu to be found ?
I have just locked the raster layer then within 40 secs need to move it so unlock it again.
I was hoping for a command that just allowed picks of curves. that would do it, or some such filter.

The SelectionFilter is available in V5.

It’s the thing that pops up when you click on a curve, but a surface could also be selected.

Hi,
SelectionFilter

aha, warm glow inside.
run it, hold ctrl and all go off, then ctrl and click and with ctrl still held down click curves and it is a darker square, select a dim and it selects.

So that method didnt work , need to see a tick.

How does one turn all off except curves, I thought the darker square meant it was ‘on’.

try again, thus time unticking each one except curves, takes a while, then dims dont select.

then go round reticking them one by one…yawn !

do that a few times and there needs to be a quicker way.

How does one do a quick ‘all off except click’ on the options there ?

Steve

Right click the one you want, and all the rest get deselected.
