what command to select a ‘bit’, one of hundreds, and have the other bits that together would make up a continuous curve if joined , get selected ?
I have found a section made through a mesh, and its hundreds of ‘bits’ and I need to have a command to select one of them and do the rest knowing they join end to end.
I reckon ‘chain’ is the command, but it expects you to select the next bit, and the next bit, .
Impossible with so many bits and the need to zoom in to atom level.
does it not have an auto ’ I’ll grab the rest for you’ command sub option ?
not for meshes since the edges tend to be unorganized triangles with g0 continuity., It has no way of knowing which way to go when it reaches the next vertex.
there is a chain for edges of surfaces and for subd’s or quad based meshes, as they are organized and the direction can be inferred.
even if this is piled in with a bunch of similar curves, they will join into larger curves that can be more easily sorted, layered or otherwise organized…
SelChain works just fine. Since these curves stem from a mesh, you’ll need to change the continuity to Position to automatically add the next one.
Note that you have several curves that are shorter than your document tolerance and the SelChain command will run into trouble in those locations and ask you which one to select next.

I select curve,
it asks select branch to follow
I select the next part and see a small black dot between them
try again
same thing
try again and drag a box, only way to select that black micro curve, then it prompts select branch so another drag then it prompts another branch , and after a few of these I abort !
just how does one use this,
if there are minute bits too small to zoom and click, and dragging a box is seeing a repeat command.
baffled.
and selcrv gets loads of these, no better than right click on layer, select all objects on that layer, which I did and was faced with the task of trying to separate out this strand pf spaghetti.
I wanted the one, sought out by it selecting all the end to end bits.
