Section tools: Lost connection between clipping plane and drawing

Dear @rajaa
We have observed two issues:

  1. The links between clipping drawings and their corresponding drawings are often lost when we alternately work on the same file from two different computers. It’s possible that we’re not using the exact same version of Rhino 8, specifically the Release Candidate. Could this version mismatch be affecting the reliability of the connections?
  2. Also, the included layers on the “select layers” panel are no longer highlighted in blue, possibly after closing and reopening the file — regardless of Rhino versions.

It shouldn’t. Can you share the SystemInfo in each computer. Also share a simple example and the steps that lead to the issue (for example: when move from computer A to B or the reverse).

@Trav have you seen this?

We’ll try to provide an example file, where this issue can be reproduced reliably — but it may take something like two weeks as I’m on vacation right now.

Here is the systemInfo for Computer A, where the clipping drawings were originally created. I will also ask my colleague to share his systemInfo.

@David_Ott and @Simon_Vorhammer thanks for sharing the information about the 2 computers. It is possible that the cause is the difference in SR because we added more properties, but it should not break the connection. I’ll need to put together an example, or use yours if you can share. Thanks.

Issue Nr. 1 seems to be working now since we are both on Rhino 8 SR11 2024-9-3.

Regarding Issue Nr. 2:
It appears that the layers highlighted in blue are not those associated with the clipping plane. Instead, they reflect the previous layer selection of any other clipping plane (as seen in the video at approximately 0:47).

I believe this was fixed in 8.13:
RH-83711 Properties: Select Clipped Layers
(this was reported earlier in this thread)
-wim

Sounds good! I suppose I’ll have to wait for 8.13, then.

Hi Simon -

If all goes well, the first service release candidate of 8.13 should be public on Tuesday (Seattle afternoon) next week.
