Script/plugin to automatically render and save a normals map to file?

Hi,
since I didn’t find an answer in the Forum I post a new question.

I want to automate rendering of a normals map and saving it to disk. Scripting does nto work since the script has no access to show the normals channel before saving the output image. What would be the better way to achieve what I want?

You need a renderer that supports outputting normals…which in Rhino Cycles seems to be supported under Document Properties→Render→Render Channels→Custom. Though, trying to see it Rhino wigs out.
