Outstanding !
As you said, the point of āStrakā or class A modelling is to produce real parts. You can achieve these images with polygons. And the only purpose of single-span is to reduce the potential error for production. If you reduce the error in the digital model, you decrease the total error including the production specific-error. And with error, I primarily mean oscillation within a multispan or high order single-span surface. Iām sure you can also model clean with multi-span surfaces, or bad with single-span. But this whole multi- vs singlespan bullshit bingo is purely Rhino-centric, because in Alias or Icem Surf it is not much harder to work single-span. Actually you speed-up on the longer term if reduce surface complexity. Other than that, it explains the importance of VSR, because it was nothing more than a follow-up project of Icem developers, who know about this. And obviously they could enhance Rhino, if some people prefer Rh5 with VSR in 2024! McNeel is just refusing to accept this again and again and you see almost zero progress regarding this matter.
Instead there is always this slight arrogance about those stupid german car companies. I admit there are many things going wrong in this industry, but as someone knowing the other side, I believe you guys are missing a lot of chances to improve because of being narrowminded regarding this matter.
Did I mention that I made this model from a Pointcloud from a 3D scanner ?
It isnt a design model, it isnt for manufacture, it is a virtual prop for moviesā¦
My main reason for using Rhino is that it works very well with scan data, I dont give a rats ass about āClass Aā as far as this project goes.
Sorry, and I forgot to mention that this is great work! I also have great respect for Kyle, Sky, David and McNeel. I just want to point out that there is so much room for improving the surfacing tools of Rhino, if there would be more acceptance for this topic. āRefitTrimā was at least one positive outcome of the ādiscussionā.
To be clear, we are not ārefusing to accept thisā we are watching Strak very closely . If it fits the needs of the Single span/ class A folks then we will fully support it (as we do all our 3rd party developers)
If not, then we will work to provide solutions that solve problems our users have as we always try to do. People often vastly overestimate how big of a company we areā¦we have a very small dev team here and have to brutally prioritize what we focus those resources on. Peters project is a very large undertaking, only made slightly less large by the fact this is the 3rd time heās done it. (vsr, Kjaito, now Strak)
We fully support his efforts and hope he delivers a great product that makes everyone happy. If not, weāll do our best to fill in what is missing.
Really impressed with the render quality. How do you approach your lighting setup?
Hi, I am a photographer by qualification (old school wet film), so I generally use those techniques.
It is a very simple setup, with just two large rectangular lights. I have also placed a large black rectangular block right next to the car to enhance the reflected horizon.
Keep in mind a lot of the reflections etc are coming from the Environment file (Studio) that I have used.
Regards,
Mike.
Simply Stunning.
I could watch a video on how you did all that for hours and hours.
It also shows me just what can be done in Rhino, if only I knew how to do all that colouring and lighting.
I can manage the surfaces, though one is always learning., we all are.
If we had a competition each month on what folk had been up to and submitted for judging, thats gold prize.
The rendering and lighting is absolutely top drawer.
I can relate to such, whilst a shampoo bottle, no.
I have studied that car before seeing this, and modelled it, 1:43 scale I recall, spraying it red suddenly it wasnt there, fell off my mount, and onto floor, and dust, well almost, miraculously got stuck on a wing, on a bag on the floor, and stayed there, inches from the final floorā¦eeek !
and this was a day before the model show. could have cried, so some drying and rubbing down and respray wing and managed it.
so edit undo in Rhino is one thing, but try actual model making, not easy.
There should be a competition each month where we can submit our models.
Let us all vote.
