Rhino V8 Shrinkwrap

Hi all,
You might remember this project where I manually created a 3D model of a classic MG car from a 3D Laser Scan.

I thought I would give V8 Shrinkwrap a workout …
I ran a test on the original complex, detailed pointcloud.
The results are a neat, watertight, triangular mesh, ready for Quadremeshing etc.

The stats are;
Input
Valid point cloud.
Point cloud with 39927642 points.
Original pointcloud size ~2.2 GB

Output
Closed double precision polygon mesh
33444676 Faces with Normals

(Original high-res scan of the MG done by Mark (Ruffy) Ruff https://lnkd.in/gMWg38f3 from Avatar Factory, Melbourne)

that is impressive! thanks for giving it a go!

Nice!
Shrinkwrap continues to impress me and is slowly turning into my ‘goto’ shrink wrapper beating MM’s ‘make solid’ and the almighty ZB dynamesh!

Is there any way to turn the “computing vertex colour” stage off ?

@Mike_A you can press ESC during the vertex color computing stage and it’ll stop computing vertex colors and hand you the mesh without cancelling the command completely. We’re going to add a checkbox for this as an option as well as vastly improve the speed of the process. This will happen in an 8.x service release. RH-75395
