.rui Save As missing in Rhino 8

Hi,

In Rhino 8, I have seen two capabilities missing that were available in Rhino 7. Am I missing an alternative that has been provided?

Firstly, Rhino 7 has a folder named UI at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\7.0\UI that stores the .rui files. This folder is very useful when we make changes to the layout of a plugin and want to capture those changes using Save As functionality of an .rui.

In my Rhino 8.16 installation, I no longer have this UI folder.

Secondly, Rhino 7 offers the capability to Save As a .rui file

Where as Rhino 8.16 doesn’t

Thanks for the request @Devang_Chauhan,

There is a ticket open for this currently. This thread will get updated when this is fixed

Hi Devang -
As for this one…

In Rhino 8, the default toolbars are no longer retrieved from a separate .rui file. Those are now stored internally.

I am looking to solve a similar challenge where i want to deploy custom UI layout organisation-wide.
Not sure if this helps your exact case.
The way i am doing this right now is -
Save the workspace in Rhino 8

Which will give you a .rui file.
I stick this file in here

settings\Scheme_Default\containers.xml : maintains overall layouts which also has my custom workspace and toolbars

any changes being made to my toolbars and workspace get captured in the same .rui file above

bit of a pain to setup because .xml files dont seem to coordinate guids very well.

you can import this workspace (.rui) later to another machine.

To add to this discussion.

I have a custom toolbar to launch some scripts I have made in Rhino8. When I use the Save option in toolbars the pop up says that the rui file has been saved in my custom plugin folder but it’s not getting overwritten at all. I have checked the xml definition and also tried saving after deleting it. It does not maintain any new changes. I can only create an entirely new toolbar from scratch to save a rui file but that is it.

Hello,

This exact problem also happens to me. Is there any way to fix this? It’s very annoying.

I managed to solve this using the command ExportRuiFile Toolbar options | Rhino 3-D modeling

Though it doesn’t seem to store the updates done on Menus.
