Rotate about an item in perspective tumbles it out of view V8

Hi,
Perspective view.
draw a circle in perspectuve view at origin, RMB and rotate about it. V5
Do so in V8 and it goes off screen !
Draw a cube in V5 and RMB rotate about it, in V8 disappears off screen with same light moves.
drag the box in V5 much further away from origin, deselect it, RMB and it rotates about it. in V8 whoosh its gone immediately.
what setting do I need in V8 as I am sure I went through properties matching all settings V5 to v8.

Cheers

Steve

This is Rhino 8:

and my V8
draw circle, RMB to rotate it.

Steve

Select the circle, then zoom selected (ZS) Does it get better?

Where is that command ?
Type Zoom and no zoomselected, look at magnifier dont see such.
I have always been able to zoom in and just rotate rmb around it in V5.
ah I see you wrote ZS
type that and it zooms i then deselect it and RMB and it rotates and foesnt fly away.

But in V5 i just zoom in and out all day long to things and rotate.
no typing needed as I move about the scene.
it rotates about what I have zoomed into, no selections needed.

Steve

If you have a file you can share that rotates correctly in Rhino 5 but not in Rhino 8, I could log the issue.

Hi,
it seems to be the non zoom selected items rotate more wildly in V8, the same amount of mouse movement sees them wandering around the screen but remain in view, in V8 the same movement and they are gone.
I will have to spend more time doing tests so as to demo this.
I am just not getting anything built !

back to V5 again

Steve

Hard to say why you are seeing different things than me, without a file I can only speculate.
I created a file with a wrong focus point, saved it out as Rhino 5 and compared. I don’t see any difference in mouse behavior between Rhino 5 and 8.

await my tests when I et a spare day

Hi Steve -

In the meanwhile, you could enable the following advanced setting in Rhino 8:

Rhino.Options.View.RotateViewAroundObjectAtMouseCursor

-wim

Hi,
Thanks Wim,
If I do that I will not manage to see whats going on, comparative to V5
HOWEVER that setting will enable me to do what I want and give what should happen anyway, for if anyone tumbles the view, they normally expect the item of their attention to be rotated about, not vanish !
which generally, ( item remains in view ), is what happens in V5.
so perhaps V5 had that set into its soul, and V8 developers lost sight of it, (pun !)
one more hurdle over on the road to using V8 at last.

Just the line quality and opening dims to solve.

Cheers

Steve
