John, I was trying to replicate the display issue this morning, and all looks great now. I am glad that I snapped a photo of the previous issue to prove I am not delusional. If the issue reoccurs, I will add to this post. It appears to have been a unique combination of system state that has now changed???

No one ever thought you were delusional.
Apple does a pretty poor job of keeping their display drivers tuned up.
I suspect you will see this again.
Rhino is the symptom, not the likely cause.
Hopefully you’ll figure out a specific command pattern that is likely to cause the issue. With those details, maybe we can write a work-around.

Hey Greg fwiw you are on OSX Catalina 10.15.4

our system requirements are for the 10.15.7 build of Catalina. May be worth grabbing that small update and see if rhino doesn’t settle down.

I upgraded my OSX to 10.15.7, and Rhino graphics was great up until a few minutes ago.

Porcupine needles suddenly started appearing in all files after I read in a new SLDPRT file.

Any suggestions, friends?

Hey Greg, pulling a thread here…

any chance you ran SelBad to see if the imported model itself has bad geometry?

SW has some notorious habits for creating bad surfaces, especially when you data transfer to a surfacing package like rhino or alias.

I didn’t, Kyle. I didn’t even know that command existed.

I did save the porcupine geometry as a .3dm, and it imported fine after the reboot.

BTW, I have watched several of your excellent tutorials. You helped me tremendously with the new SubD functionality.

Go to OpenGL settings in Rhino and turn off GPU Tessellation.

It’s a FAR BETTER system for Rhino 7 than the Silicon Macs.
