Rhino website content

Continuing the discussion from A very new user( and fairly new to CAd) question re parameters and Excel:

Hi Margaret,
I started a regular reply but it became too much it would interfere with the topic of OP.

Indeed I found that, but if I go to the website of Rhino and want to know what formats it can handle.
I only get a list of V5 I/O improvements. All items listed under http://www.rhino3d.com/new/compatibility
relate to new or improved features. Actually all of the website texts on V5 suggest a knowledge of V4.
It’s all about what is new in V5. If I click on the main page on features,
I get to the page: Rhino - New in Rhino 8. What is new in Rhino

The more I think about it the more I find lacking.
The old site had a quick summary of what Rhino has to offer:

When I try to visit the site as a potential evaluator/user, I see a single software package that has a new V5 out. It is Better, Bigger, Faster. What lacks for me is a compact list of the features it offers. The item sequence on top is also a little odd:

I think buying is the last thing a average visitor does, he/she checks out features; a gallery a trial version etc…

What I miss in the top menu is a link to the “developer tools” (last slide).

IMO the site should reflect more the versatility and flexibility of Rhino as a platform as opposed to a 3D modeling package like any other.

The Gallery, is well…how to put that…dull.
It’s a bunch of renderings categorized by industry. Why not overhaul that; go for quality over quantity. what I see at the Rhino blog is much more interesting.(IMO) The gallery should reflect all of the platform; not just models and renderings. The gallery is where you should really show off, show screenshots of complex models in progress, dump video’s of interesting projects, display what is done with custom code, grasshopper, various other plugins. Show Neon, show displaymodes. ( BTW why is there not a single image on this page: http://www.rhino3d.com/new/display)
I’d like to see more of this:
Sun & Panel - Grasshopper
Ghcomp - Grasshopper
ring-mesh-01 - Grasshopper

and less of this (with all respect):
http://www.rhino3d.com/gallery/1/38695
http://www.rhino3d.com/gallery/163/46542
http://www.rhino3d.com/gallery/13/36154

I hope this does not come across as bashing. I just had a look at the website since long and IMo it doesn’t do justice to what Rhino is.

Also I found some “dead” links;
A link to the wishlist is outdated (last post in 2013) (via Beyond Rhino 5 - Special benefits of ownership)
On that same page in overview the link to labs projects directs to labs:homepage [McNeel Wiki] that should be Rhino 5 Labs Tools [McNeel Wiki]

Thanks
-Willem

Thanks for letting us know about this. @bobmcneel, I think this is for you.

I could not find these. @margaret, could you?

@scottd Has started working on these issues. I’m sure he’ll be delighted to get your feedback as he makes progress.
