Rhino V6 latest version won t open second Rhino Window

Hi,

For whatever reason if I have one Rhino V6 open and need to open a second Rhino V6 in parallel, I just get a small window that is trying to open and says please wait and it just tries to open rhino for ever.

It s the latest version of Rhino V6 that I have.

Hi Alexandre - please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and post the result here.

Do you have any “stuck” ghost Rhinos running (check in Taskmamager)?
How are you opening the new instance?

Hi,

I just double click on the Rhino V6 Icon and it opens a new session in parallel, I ve always done that before and never had any issues up until the most recent update.

Are you able to start 2 sessions if you start them in safe mode?

That s odd,

Many times since yesterday I had this problem where Rhino wouldn t open a second session, I tried it once again just now and it works.

Sorry to bother you with this, my issue seems to have resolved itself by magic.

Thanks all for your help

Alex

As a general inquiry, why can’t you open 2 or more model files in one instance of Rhino rather than starting multiple sessions? You can do that in AutoCAD or PhotoShop for instance.

Thanks,

I fully agree with you. It would be nice to have multiple files opened in the same Rhino instance
I learned to use that in Catia and see this as more advantageous.

Worksession command in Rhino allows multiple files to be open in the same instance of Rhino. Only one file can be active at any time. The contents of the other files is visible and can be selected but not altered. The active file can be switched within the session. While the Worksession documentation talks about multiple users Worksession works with a single user. I use it frequently. https://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/6/help/en-us/commands/worksession.htm

Hi Alexandre - why?

@pascal A related question is how does the desired capability differ from what is already available using Worksession?

I’m not @alexandre_galin but the only advantage I see is that you can quickly browse through all Rhino files that are open. Currently you have to alt+tab through them which takes all the other applications in the mix.
But what I like about how it is done now is that it’s much safer: in case one instance crashes you only loose work in one file.

Yep. Exactly, that is a great advantage. I am curious as to what the advantage of multi-doc might be - on Mac I do not see one so far, on the contrary I find it a nuisance to have to explicitly close files when I open another, but I have pretty strong Rhino/Windows habits…

My reason was the same as Gijs. However it is true that if it crashes I lose everything. I felt a bit frustrated this week when for over 30 hours I was unable to open a second rhino v6 application, the license manager was just turning in circles… It s no big deal but a tad annoying. For some unknown reason the license manager started working properly on the second day.

Got it, thanks!
