Rhino for Mac Interface - why is it different?

Forgive my ignorance on the topic, but what are the factors which prohibit the possibility of making Rhino for Mac’s user interface identical to the Rhino for Windows interface? It does not need to be stated that having the two interfaces identical would be a real time saver for those who need to occasionally switch between computer platforms.

Hello- does your question take into account the changes in V8?

the initial idea creating Rhino for mac was to make a more Mac like looking UI from what i remember people have justified the differences. though a lot of nice ideas came out of the mac version people were shouting to unify the UI on both for a long time. i am not fully in favour of all the things that changed in v8 but maybe it makes sense for the majority of users to unify them. yes they still are not completely alike, also dont have to be that equal. though one thing i am still missing is the Rhino native fullscreen.

You mean other than the angry horde of Mac users who would descend on McNeel HQ with torches and pitchforks if ‘be like Windows!’ was the way they phrased a goal on the roadmap?

The underlying components are converging. How far to take the look and feel is something I imagine they’re thinking about.

I’ve lived in both places (Win + Mac) and there are merits to both sides… for Rhino I’d love if the option were there in Windows to open multiple documents within a session to facilitate communication between plugins and scripts for different documents. On the other hand, I generally prefer MS UI standards guidelines to Mac.

My question doesn’t take anything into account (lol!), as I know nothing about computer programming or coding software. I’m really just trying to educate myself on the topic. Obviously there are reasons why Rhino can’t have the same UI / tools layout for both platforms, and I was hoping there might be a basic answer for an uninformed layman such as myself. I’m only up to V7, but if you’re telling me V8 appears more unified, then shame on me for not checking V8 before I posted this.

Hello- V8 goes a long way towards unifying the UI across platforms - it’s not 100% but getting pretty close now.
