Rhino doesn't close files

I’m unable to close a file if it’s been open for more than a few hours, or overnight. The file can be seen but no command works, I just get a ding audio note. I’m also unable to size or move the Rhino instance, just a ding with any mouse click on any command or action.

This only happens with R8, not R7.

A ding probably means some dialog is waiting for input, it probably is misplaced for some reason. Have you tried pressing ESC or ENTER when that happens? Also try ALTTAB to see if you can find a dialog window that is open but hidden behind Rhino for instance.

Thanks, that was the first thing I looked for, but esc just dings, and click on the instance window dings. I cycled through all the running apps and there are no windows waiting for a response.

Any other ideas?

Hi BDT -

Is this specific to a file that you are working with or can you reproduce that behavior with a new file from a factory-default template where you add, say, a single box?

When Rhino is inaccessible like this, you can send in a manual dump file that might give some idea about what is going on.
The instructions for doing so are here: Manually Creating a Memory Dump (DMP File) from an Unresponsive Rhino for Windows [McNeel Wiki]
