Trimmed portion of a cylinder:
This is great. I won’t need to use Dir to see the parameter directions.
Diamonds work for me after I bump up the size of the control point size. Is there any way to increase the size of the control points in all display modes at the same time?
is there a reason not to also show W?
I have a view mode with a single color for backfaces, but there are some downsides to that, and being able to just hit my pointson hotkey and see UV and W would be great
W as in the normal direction, commonly referred to as the N direction in Rhino?
I’ve seen W used in volume based systems which have three parameter U,V,W. But Rhino is (almost) completely surface and curve based, so only two parameters for surfaces and one parameter for curves. Volumes in Rhino use a Boundary Representation system.
you could call it N too. W shows up in GHpython I think.
but the point is less about what to call it. there are other situations in which a relative Z shows up, like anytime you pick a SubD face with the gumball on. It seems consistent for that little UV indicator to have a W or an N. The only way it could tell you which face of the surface is front and which is back without a third arrow is if it appears to be mirror imaged when you look at it from the backface
Having a short vector for the normal direction is essential for NURBS surfacing. It should be added ASAP.
I propose to make it 10% of the length of the new large UV indicators, and 1 pixel wide.
Or allow the user to set a custom length and thickness for it, independent from the corresponding settings for the UV indicators. Don’t make it an arrow. It’s enough to see it as a basic line. It does not need a visible letter “N”.
Hello Joshua K. ,
Is it possible to have-make a video about why direction is useful and when to use it? Not a normal direction, but the actual u v direction when making surfaces.
Yes please
