Rhino 9 Beta UI defaults to Italian and cannot be changed to English

Hi McNeel Team,

I recently installed Rhino 9 WIP, but the user interface opened in Italian by default and I am unable to change it to English.

Steps attempted so far:

Tried running the SetLanguage command, but the command is not recognized.

Edited settings-Scheme__Default.xml to replace it-IT with en-US under DefaultTemplateFile, but the UI remains in Italian after restarting.

Checked Rhino Options (Opzioni), but could not locate any Language/Localization settings.

System Info:

Rhino 9 WIP (9.0.26251.12303, 08/09/2026)

OS: Windows 10/11

Educational License

Could you please advise on how to install or force the English UI package in Rhino 9 WIP?

Thanks,

Michele

You meant BETA?

Language setting should be here:

Thanks, but that’s not where the problem is — I’m already on that page.

Screenshot 1 is Options > Appearance on my machine: “Language used for display” is there, and it’s set to Italiano (Italia). The trouble is that the dialog itself doesn’t respond correctly. As soon as I click in the right-hand pane — on the dropdown or on the checkboxes — the panel jumps to a different page: I end up on Grid (screenshot 2) or Location (screenshot 3) instead of staying on Appearance.
You can see that something is off in the way the dialog is drawn, too: the blue selection bar from the tree on the left runs across the full width of the window and covers the controls on the right. In screenshot 1 it hides part of “Completa automaticamente comandi” and “Usa completamento automatico voci simili”; in screenshot 2 it covers the first radio button under “Apply grid changes to”.
So the clicks don’t land where the controls appear to be, and I can never actually open the language dropdown and choose English — the UI stays Italian.
This is Rhino 9 BETA on Windows. Is this a known hit-testing / DPI-scaling issue with the Options dialog? And is there a way to set the display language outside the dialog — a command, or an .ini/registry setting — so I can get out of Italian in the meantime?

Some extra details on my setup, since this looks DPI-related.

I’m on a laptop with an external monitor attached:

  • Laptop display: 1920 Ă— 1080, scaling 175%
  • External display: 2560 Ă— 1080, scaling 175%

I keep both at 175% because anything lower makes the icons too small to work with comfortably, so this isn’t a setting I can simply leave at 100%.

Given that Windows applies DPI per monitor, I suspect the Options dialog isn’t handling the scaling correctly: the selection bar from the left-hand tree is drawn across the full width of the window, over the controls on the right, and the clicks clearly don’t land where the controls are painted — clicking in the right-hand pane takes me to a different page (Grid, Location) instead of staying on Appearance.

I’ll test with both displays set to 100% and with the external monitor disconnected, and report back whether the dialog behaves correctly in those conditions. But at 175%, which is my normal working setup, the Options dialog is effectively unusable — and since that’s the only place to change the display language, I’m stuck with the Italian UI.

Is there a way to set the display language outside the Options dialog — a command, or a settings/registry entry — as a workaround in the meantime?

I changed the WIP in the topic title to Beta

I have a similar issue. I can change the language on the options, but the preference is not preserved during application restart, so it never takes effect. Im using Rhino Beta for MAC (9.0.26251.12304, 08/09/26)
