Rhino 8 won’t open on Mac after update

Hi!

I’m in urgent need of an older version of Rhino 8 because Rhino won’t start on my Mac after updating today. It immediately shows: “Rhino quit unexpectedly.” I’ve tried restarting my Mac, but it still won’t open.

My setup:

  • Rhino: Version 8 (8.28.26041.11002, 2026-02-10)

  • macOS: Tahoe 26.3 (fully updated)

Could you please provide a download link to the previous Rhino 8 version (the build right before 8.28), or tell me the best way to solve this?

Thank you!

Hi Athena,

I’ll send you the previous version but thinking there might be something else going one. Let me know what the result is.

Ever since I updated I also have been unable to open files in Rhino. All I can see is the most recent projects, and when I click on them the computer loads and then I get a “rhino crashed” message on my screen

Hi Ava,

What exactly did you update? Can you provide your current Mac OS and your current Rhino version?

I’m in MacOS Ventura 13.5.1, and Rhino Version 8 (8.28.26041.11002 2026-02-10). Now I’m starting to wonder if maybe my Mac needs to be updated for it to work?

Hi Ava -

From the crash report that you sent in, it looks like this crash is related to Metal. Apple typically fixes bugs in the display drivers in newer operating systems.

I see that you are on an M1. Unless there is a different application that you use that holds you back on macOS Ventura, updating to the most recent would be a good thing to do.
