Rhino 8 Section Tools Performance Concerns

Just upgraded to Rhino 8. Specifically because of he new Section Tools under the Drafting menu. I’m finding the performance to be remarkably slow. The models are not complex; stair designs with some fasteners.
Generating the section drawings and updating the section drawings are just slow.
Anyone else experiencing this?
I’m using an I7 with 32 gigs ram, Nvidia p2200.
I had no issues with Rhino 7 using clipping planes and Make2d. Performance there was fine.

Hi Wollastonbill,

Can you run SystemInfo via the Rhino command line and post the results?

Let’s update your video driver. Do you have a small example file that we can look at? If need be upload privately and add a link to this post in the comments.

Just uploaded. I will try video drivers next. Thanks for your efforts.

Thanks, I’m assigning this to the dev to look at (later this week)

I do see a couple BadObjects, use the SelBadObjects command to highlight.

Japhy
I’ve done some sluething of my own.
Sure seems like the Lag Bolts in the model were causing problems.
What was somewhat vexing is that clipping plane and make 2d in V7 had no issues while Section tolls in V8 did have trouble.
I think you can put this one to bed for now. I do appreciate all the availability of McNeel staff to help with stuff like this.
Cheers
BW

@wollastonbill Creating the background drawing of a section uses the same process as Make2D. You will see that Make2D takes about 34 seconds to update. I advise that you turn of the background of the drawing while you are modeling (there is an option in ClippingDrawings and EditClippingDrawings commands to set the AddBackground". You can turn back on when you need to print or export the drawings.
