Rhino 8 MAC - cant locate Walkabout - elevator up down, forward, back etc

I used to use the walkabout feature and tools quite a bit in set design to get specific views, elevator up and down, walk forward and back etc. I am finding look about but its only letting me look left and right, up and down. Is there a new way to quickly navigate and set named views? I spent a bit of time on google and didnt see much. Thanks

Hi
I was unaware the command was missing in V8 Mac Rhino.
I’ve logged a defect report.
It’s in the Mac Help file so my guess is it slipped through the cracks.
Sorry about that. We’re on it.

I’m still not seeing walkabout and the ability to move / walk forward. Was that fixed ?

Hi Dustin -

Bugtracker reports are generally open to the public, and you can check the state, release target, comments, …
RH-80133 is currently on the 8.x list but it wouldn’t surprise me if this gets looked at for a future version of Rhino on macOS.

Hey there,
I´m currently also struggling with a missing walk about mode.
Any news on it being implemented?
Cheers.

Hi Fabian -

No.

Has there been any update to this?

RH-80133 WalkAbout unknown command in Mac V8
This ticket is public - you can check for any activity at any time. This is currently on the 9.x list.

Hi @wim is there any update on Walkabout for Mac? I couldn’t find it in Rhino 9 WIP for Mac either. Thanks!

Hi tcisar -

I’ll have to repeat myself. That issue is public and you can check for activity at any time. If you read that report, you will see that the developer doesn’t know if the necessary plumbing is available in Rhino for macOS at all. If not, this is something that will go to the Rhino 10 or later list at some point.

Hi @wim

Thank you. I understand — it’s a pity.

At the moment, Rhino doesn’t really offer a fluent navigation workflow that can be comfortably presented to a client. Snapshots exist, of course, but for architectural projects you would need a large number of them, which quickly becomes impractical.

Hopefully this functionality will be added in the future, or the snapshot system will be significantly improved. At the very least, some solid presentation workaround would be very welcome, especially for iRhino - @mkarimi . A navigation experience similar to SketchUp scenes or a simple walkthrough solution would be a big improvement.

I’ll post my comments in a separate thread to avoid mixing topics.

I know it’s not the direct solution but using a 3D connexion mouse would make the navigation a charm.

I can’t work without it anymore.

Thanks a lot. So, I will give 3D connexion mouse second chance

First time it looks weird and not good but in couple of hours you can start enjoying it.

Set the speed very low at the beginning, it helps a lot.
