Rhino 8 graphical glitch when importing SVG icons

I’m importing a 24x24 pixel SVG icon, and the pixel grid looks weird until you resize the window:

Yeah, just saw something similar on the Windows side when opening a standard icon image.

‘Macros’ icon as opened:

Resize window a bit:

This is the first time I’ve seen it though, and I’ve been opening lots of original svg’s lately.

Is it just me or is V8 SR11 even worse now? (And did the developers anticipate this by adding a direct-forum link to the menu!?)

I don’t see anything anymore but also, these icons used to render and now they don’t?

Wait, PNG imports are broken too now???

(Also, nice capitalization on Files and no whitespace after…) :no_mouth:

But now I’m stuck with this… :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

And for the left icon, that drop down arrow menu literally doesn’t exist. It should exist, however, because that’s where you’d hopefully place the “revert to system default” option.

God damnit, I don’t think I’ve seen a buggier release from a company that didn’t go bankrupt 18 months later… I do hope McNeel is ok, but damn… it doesn’t feel like it.

I rewrote the old SVG Editor as my first project at McNeel, so, yes actually! :joy:

This is fixed in 8.12, as is that strange canvas colour bug.

This should put each file on a new line, I’ll take a look at this, thanks for pointing it out.

This is odd, png’s should always work. Can you share the png and svg you’re trying to import?

It’s literally any .png so here’s the raster one of the svg I posted above:

Ah sorry I didn’t see that little guy. Huh, yeah it doesn’t import. Weird.
Yes that doesn’t import for me either. I’m pushing a fix that will go into the next release

@CallumSykes Does this fix not also fix SVG imports? Mine still come up blank even with the current release candidate.

Also, with that release candidate I just noticed that editing my custom toolbar now shows the wrong icons (ie, only shows the default icons regardless of what I select, for some reason):

Here’s what it looks like after I’ve opened my new SVG in place (note the link to it in the titlebar):

Hey @eobet,

I managed to reproduce this issue. Apologies for this. I’ve pushed a fix which will be in the next SR. Thanks again for being so patient and informing me of your issues.

SVGs should work on the whole (In some scenarios (such as this) there will be bugs due to SVG just being really complex or my code not handling something. And I appreciate you being patient whilst I iron those issues out.

An unrelated question @eobet . Do you use custom colours for your Rhino install?

If you mean like this, yes I’m trying to (but not having a very good time with it yet).

Ok that explains the grid not really showing then, still I would like it to show correctly if you have custom colours, but looking at that thread. I’m unsure how feasible that is.

Well… some of the icons I’m doing are not fixed colors, but transparent dark or transparent white, (not sure I can play with blend modes, but that’s next to test) which means that even if I try lots of different funky colors in my theme, the icons will still blend more or less nicely:

Now, I suggested here that rather than having to change 100 individual colors and leaving it up to the user to find a good balance (and find what to change), it would be better to be able to just have a few base colors and a contrast slider, so maybe that’s at least something you could try for the grid?

Excellent idea. Mcneel should really invest in their UI
