Does updating your Rhino 8 to SR11 resolve the issue?

I updated to SR11 and was successful in changing the layer colour. However, I also got the freeze again. I think it has something to do with the fact that I have the right sidebar visibility toggled so that the layers sidebar is collapsed until I click on the layers icon.
When choosing a custom colour from the window with the colour wheel that pops up, the layer sidebar collapses. After closing the pop-up window for colour selection, that’s when the program becomes unresponsive.

I succeeded in having it not freeze by dragging the pop-up window over the pop-up layer sidebar as I made my colour selection in order to keep the sidebar from auto-collapsing, then selecting the colour, shimmying the window over to click “OK”. It worked but was definitely not convenient.

Hi Chris -

In my custom setup, I also have the right sidebar with the layers panel collapsed but I haven’t run into that issue with layer colors.

We still have a related issue on the list where access to Rhino becomes impossible after a fly-out and auto-collapse of the sidebar, but that is with different workflows → RH-82645 Containers: Collapsed Properties Panel Blocks Access to Rhino

Could you export your window layout and post that file here so I can test with your setup?

I think I can reproduce this, though a bit different:
When I try to change layer color with collapsed sidebar, once the color picker shows up, Rhino disappears, and when I switch back, the color dialog is gone, and Rhino is inaccessible. When I click in the viewport, I get a Windows sound. So the dialog is open but not visible. Happens in Both latest 8 and WIP
RH-83887 Rhino becomes inaccessible after changing print color

Yes, this is exactly what happens.

Hi Chris -

Thanks. I’m able to reproduce the behavior with my own layout when changing the print color. Hopefully, when that gets fixed, it also fixes a possible issue with the layer color.
