Rhino 8 Beta Crash when accessing Document User Text

Ahh! Crashed Rhino 3 Times today using DocumentUserText components :exclamation: :slightly_frowning_face:
No crash dialog, just closed.

  1. Gh file is already opened.
  2. Opened Options
  3. Clicked DocumentUserText

Below is a bad clip of what I did.
The screen capture i used wont capture the popup windows, sorry.

I had this happen another time today after running grasshopperplayer and then trying to open the DUT.

Minimal versions of the files below.
Testing Ground R820231006_17085920231006_170912.3dm (5.7 MB)
UserTextSearch.gh (10.9 KB)

Hmm. I don’t see any Grasshopper file open in your screenshot… I’m assuming it’s on a different screen? Does this crash happen when clicking a Rhino button? Or something in Grasshopper? The reason I ask is that Grasshopper doesn’t have a Document User Text component (yet). Is this possibly just a bug with a Rhino command (and nothing to do with Grasshopper)? Can you get it to crash without Grasshopper open?

Using the steps given everything is OK here.

Yep, Its on a different screen.

I go into options and try to go to the DUT page.

:person_shrugging:

Right after Running the same script in grasshopperplayer.

I will try again today. I installed an update after this post last night.

Well bummer. Just checked it and it crashed again… Twice.

Ryan, Lets unload your Rhino 3rd party plugins for testing. We should also consider GH plugins. I had issues recently with an older Omniverse plugin causing issues, which a update of the plugin resolved.

Ok, so I

  1. Started Rhino in safe mode.
  2. Opened the Rhino file below.
    Testing Ground R820231006_17085920231006_170912.3dm (5.7 MB)
  3. Clicked the options page button and gave permissions to load a number of Native Rh Plugins.
  4. Clicked the DUC page button.
  5. Rhino crashed without Gh ever being loaded. (I cleared all the gh plugins in my plugin file also. And from the package manager.)

Here is another terrible screen capture. It does not show the popup rhino windows.

Maybe this needs a new thread? Or split?

Thanks, removing the plugins and isolating without grasshopper is really helpful. Now we just need to reproduce this somehow. Unfortunately i’m not seeing any crash reports submitted by your emails.

Ok I think I narrowed down something.
If I delete the Line that came from Speckle I can load it. I don’t use Speckle anymore.

I know. It gives nothing every time it crashes. Not sure why.

Character overload? I copied and pasted the Value into Google Docs and got a character count of 35525 :grimacing:

When Rhino crashes, do you see a “Rhino has crashed dialog”? And if so, are you submitting the crash report?

You might also look at your desktop for any Rhino crash text files.

Nothing has come up.

What is a Crash Text File? I will see if I can find anything.

@dale
I could not find anything on my computer.

I just tried a saved version of this file in R7. Worked just fine.
