Rhino 7sr11 will not save aliases

I just updated to sr11 and now rhino will not save my aliases once i customize them. It also does not save when I reorder the columns in the layer panel. Any advice? thanks, Matt

Are you running multiple instances of Rhino V7?

I am not

As a test, I changed “C” from SelCrossing to a circle command and it survives a restart.
I am also not having any problems changing the column order in V7.

yes, I don’t understand what is happening. I have tried importing my aliases from a saved file, and manually changing them in the session. I have also tried exporting the options and then importing them next time. It keeps some settings such as my function key customizations, but will not reload the aliases.

AS a test, right-click on the Rhino Shortcut and Run as Administrator.
Make a change, exit, and see if that kicks it in the head.

ok i will track down an admin in my office and give it a try, thanks

interestingly I talked to another person in our studio who has been having the exact same problem since the service release.

no luck

Those changes are stored in the settings-Scheme_Default.xml file in your Roaming Profile.
C:\Users[YOU]\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\7.0\settings

If you close Rhino and delete the setting file, Rhino will create a default one.
Then see if you can make a change.

Any luck?

No, still did not work. the options file loads which puts back my custom function keys, but not the aliases.

I lost all my precious aliases when I wiped my computer to try to clean it up. Trying to never ever have this happen again… If I do export options, and save this Roaming folder what else do I need to save? Template files, custom materials… aka how can I preserve all my attributes or if I want a friend or a consultant to have “exactly the same” version of my Rhino what are the steps?

I realize this was my bad for not knowing or testing this, but I was devastated to learn that all this stuff wasn’t linked to my “cloud license” scenario. I literally spent weeks getting those aliases to work perfectly and I have been mucking with data recovery software to try to get them back but have almost given up hope… Can any of that stuff be restored by pulling up old files that I created when it was all working? Thanks!

Hi -

Please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result here.

There are many things to consider and there isn’t any simple way to transfer all settings. Apart from the settings that you can export and that are saved in that xml file, you can put custom materials, blocks, line types, hatches, etc in a custom template file. If you have any 3rd party plug-ins, you will need to keep track of those as well.

I’m afraid not, no. I’ve added your comment about expecting a link to the Rhino Account to open item RH-40733.

@M_Pierce
Use your File explorer to check the permissions on the settings XML file.
It should look like this:

here it is:

Can you share your custom aliases here? Maybe this has something to do with these specific aliases.

It would also be good to get that settings.xml file
