Rhino 7SR10 does not load plugins

Hello.

After upgrade to 7SR10, Rhino is lame:
_ at start I see a message “Cannot load default rendering plug-in” (this might not be exact, as I’m translating from Italian).
_ there are no toolbars: “Toolbar” or “ToolbarReset” are unknown commands;
_ if I go in Tools → Options, there is no plugins element in the tree at the left.
_ many other commands do not work (e.g check for updates).

I tried deleting %APPDATA%\mcneel, but this did not help.
Running Rhino as Administrator gives the same results.
Ditto running in safe mode.

I uninstalled and installed an older version (7.2) and it works fine; however the problem starts again as soon as I update to SR10.

What can I try?

Thanks.

It appears that your evaluation version has expired. This normally means you can’t save any files anymore. Why a version built on 2021-09-13 expired on 2021-03-28 I cannot explain (@John_Brock) and I don’t know what it means when it comes to upgrading, but perhaps it explains what you are seeing.

Hi Andrea -
I see that you started your evaluation of Rhino 7 in December 2020 and that license expired in March this year. Expired evaluation licenses are save-disabled and might have more restrictions. Just to make sure, are your intentions to use this expired license as a viewer of files only?

Hello.
I’m a developer: my software must be able to produce .3dm files (through OpenNURBS) and I sometimes need to check if they are correct and if they can be viewed properly with Rhino.
So yes, I’m using it as a viewer only.

AFAICT with an expired licence I just won’t be able to save; that shouldn’t mean I can’t have a toolbar. Should it?
Besides, as I said, up to 7SR9 everything worked properly, even if the license expired long ago.

Hi Andrea -

No, that’s correct, it shouldn’t.

You only mentioned 7.2 - it’s good to know that 7.9 was fine.
I take it that you have tried a repair on the 7.10 installation?
Could you go back to 7.9 and get the SystemInfo from that version? Perhaps that provides some clues…
Your GPU is severely underpowered to be running Rhino 7 and is using old drivers but I don’t think that should be getting in the way of getting the plug-in manager to populate the list.

Hello.

Besides, as I said, up to 7SR9 everything worked properly, (…)

Yeah. Might have been 7.8, since I hadn’t upgraded for some time, but I
believe it was 7.9.

I take it that you have tried a repair on the 7.10 installation?

That fails:
_ it downloads .NET 4.8;
_ tries to repair .NET 4.8 and fails with NetFx48Redist: - 2147023293.

I’m attaching the log file.

Does this mean the problem is with .NET?
Do tou know how to solve that, in case?
Is anything changed WRT to .NET in SR10?

Could you go back to 7.9 and get the |SystemInfo| from that version?

Not sure.
I have the 7.2 installer, but not the 7.9 one.
Can I get it from somewhere?

Your GPU is severely underpowered to be running Rhino 7

I know, but it’s enough to just open a file, render it basically, rotate
it around a bit and close it.

and is using old drivers

:-?
AFAICT I’m using the latest drivers available for this card

Thanks

(Renaming attachment as .txt, as .log does not get through)

Rhino_7_20211003094656.txt (22 KB)

I guess 7.10 was defected, since 7.11 works fine again.

bye & Thanks
