Rhino 7 (Win 10 Home): Thumbnails in file explorer keep disappearing!

This is maddening. I’ve been looking for a solution for weeks now and can’t figure it out. It’ll save the thumbnail on the file or two that I’m working on at the moment, then poof, they vanish! Is there some setting in Rhino to fix this, or a Windows setting I’m missing here?

My files are in a OneDrive folder (they have to be to sync), but I did the ‘Download all files’ under Files On-Demand thing, but that didn’t fix it. Besides, thumbnails work fine for other file types. It’s just Rhino extensions which leads me to belive it’s a Rhino setting.

Help please. Thanks in advance.

Just found and tried this trick: regsvr32 “C:\Program Files\Rhino 7\System\RhinoHandlers.dll”

Nope. :frowning_with_open_mouth:

Bump.

There is a well-documented issue with OneDrive where File Explorer displays icons instead of thumbnails for files (not just Rhino files) in OneDrive folders, regardless of displaying thumbnails for the same files on other drives. This has been going on for a year and the only reliable solution reported by users is uninstalling OneDrive! Toggling the “Always show icons” setting on and off may have worked for some people, and/or worked in Windows 11 if not 10. It doesn’t work for me.

Odd thing is 3dm files are the ONLY file type that doesn’t work. That’s why I’m suspecting it’s a Rhino side issue. obj files work, SolidWorks, PDFs, etc. :man_shrugging:

Hmm maybe but I see this with lots of Adobe stuff. Being able to see HDRs or Photoshops comes and goes. I believe the display of thumbnails in Explorer is simply a capricious, unknowable force of nature.

Not for me. Nor, quickly running through one folder, Word, Excel, Project, PNG, STL, DFX, JPG, STP, PSD…
