Rhino 7 trial for mac crashes - URGENT

I’m having trouble with Rhino 7. I downloaded the trial version but when I click on ‘new model’ or try to open an existing rhino file I have, it crashes immediately. I downloaded rhino 6 to see if such a problem occurs but no problem there.

Your SystemInfo shows only an Intel Iris GPU which may not be enough to open and display your model in Rhino 7 but if you could update your macOS to the last version of Catalina that would be worth a try. Can you provide one of the models that doesn’t open? Also post your SystemInfo from Rhino 6 as well please.

I deleted rhino 6 to run rhino 7. I am updating my laptop now, will try again soon. Where do I send you the model from?

Rhino 6 for Mac doesn’t need to be removed to run Rhino 7 for Mac and it won’t replace it in Applications if you own a Rhino 6 license you can download it again here https://www.rhino3d.com/download/ in the Archives section. I was hoping to spot a difference there in the system info. You can use https://www.rhino3d.com/upload to upload any file larger than you could post here or email to tech@mcneel.com.

I have updated my computer, looks like that helps cause it hasn’t crashed so far. I’ll be back here if I have problems further on. Thank you

Glad to hear it!

It still crashes, but now after I click on the file I want to work on -before it did not even allow me to click anywhere and just crashed immediately-. Sometimes it takes 5-6 minutes before it crashes but eventually, it does.

I’m sorry to hear you are still crashing. Is Rhino fully crashing or just hanging indefinitely, requiring a Force Quit?

You might try updating to the most recent Service Release to see if that changes anything. We just shipping 7.3 and there are some stability improvements.

It fully crashes, I am not even able to open my existing files now even though I tried deleting and redownloading rhino and now have the latest version.

That still sounds quite frustrating. Can you please try one more thing? If you are able to launch Rhino and start a new modeling window, please try navigating to Rhino 7 > Preferences > General and switching to Service Release Candidates. We’ve done some work in the upcoming Release Candidate (slated for release quite soon we hope) that we hope will solve your issue :crossed_fingers: .

You’ll need to Check for Updates again. Any better?

Hi Dan, i’ve a similar but not the same problem, i have a trial expired version but i cannot either open and see any 3d file, even 3dm. Have already update but no joy. Do you have any suggest? see below infos.
thank you for any help

Hi Enrico-

It’s unclear to me what exactly you are experiencing (this thread is a bit old), but this thread is reporting a crash when attempting to open a model. Is that what you’re experiencing? Rhino crashing?

see any 3d file

Based on this, I would speculate that you are experiencing a display issue (this is just a guess). If I’m not correct, please let me know.

I would suggest you try updating to macOS Monterey 12.3 (or later). Please make sure you run a TimeMachine backup before doing this.

Hi Dan, have updated monterey but i have the same issue, any suggest, it is really sad cannot just open and see either 3dm files, thank you in advance

Hi Enrico-

I guess I’d repeat my question from a few weeks ago, since I’m unclear exactly what the behavior is. Can you please describe, in detail, the steps you are taking to reproduce the issue? Presume I know nothing about Rhino…sometimes the devil is in the details.

-Dan
