Rhino 7 compatibility with MacBook Pro M1 Pro

Dear Rhino Support Team,

I would like to confirm the compatibility of Rhino 7 with the following Mac configuration.

Machine specifications:

  • MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro 16/512gb • M1 PRO con CPU 8-core e GPU 14-core

    • 16 gb ram

    • 512 gb ssd

Could you please confirm if Rhino 7 runs correctly on this machine and if there are any known limitations or performance considerations when using Rhino on Apple Silicon processors?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Kind regards,
Piervittorio Prevedello

Hi @Piervittorio,

Here are the system requirements for Rhino 7.

Rhino 7 on Mac is Intel-based, so it will run in emulation mode on the M1 Pro.

Rhino 8 on Mac is a native Silicon application.

I have the the 256gb SSD version of this machine and honestly if runs Rhino 8 better than any of my Windows machines. Great choice.

Cheers

DK

Thank you very much for your quick reply.

Thank you very much
Pier

It should also be noted that Rhino 7 for Mac uses OpenGL while Rhino 8 for Mac uses Metal to display geometry. We made the change because we were running into OpenGL issues on Mac and Apple has officially marked OpenGL as a technology they will not be supporting in the future.

Thank you Steve
