Same here!!! An incredible problem, no reacting command icons, impossible to work with version 5D129W therefor. Not reacting by using the trackpad, mouse or wacom tablet. I donwgraded my Rhinoceros to version 5D92W which works fine! But will stop tomorrow! So Rhino stops me to work with Rhino from tomorrow!?

Please find a solutions quick, I depend on Rhinoceros for mac in my work.

I use El Captan for the moment. Didn’t upgrade to Sierra yet.

Regards.

Same here, much oddness with the icons… also on El Capitan.
When I open the WIP I get this on the left hand tool bar

This is normally what it looks like

If I click a couple of tabs it reappears as normal - but still no working icons.

Also ‘froze’ while doing a couple of simple helicoidal extrusions…

updating

After some tests I solved (temporarily?) The problem as follows.
Foreword: I think that the file to which it was working is somehow corrupted during the update.

  1. I selected all the parts of the file that I needed to continue the work
  2. cmd + c
  3. new file opening (cmd + n)
  4. cmd + v
At the moment everything seems to work. ( fingers crossed…)

#5

I created the new (helicoidal extrusions) file this morning after having done the update. I have opened and closed it a couple of times, as well as quitting the WIP. Still no joy. Same file works fine in Rhino (not the WIP)-

#6

In the past I was NOT advised to have installed both the “normal” version that WIP. Possible "interference between the two versions).

#7

Ah ok… something to take note of, although I’ve been using all the WIPs since the beginning of the year with Rhino for mac installed and no problems.

#8

That is not what the page says - it just recommends that you don’t run them at the same time is all…

The Rhino for Mac WIP
build can be run on the same system with the full, stable, commercial
release (but not simultaneously). They are two separate applications:

Here too, tools icons do not work with my files, but do work on a new document.

2nd issue with this update, i tried to set in system preference/Dock, the Prefer tabs when opening documents: to Always, as per Dan’s explanation.
But then the floating view port is stuck as a tab as well = and i can’t find a way to separate it so it will work on the secondary screen.

With thanks

I was not referring to the page (as you quite rightly pointed out)
I was referring to the board personally done by developers to the problems we had in the past solution (sorry can not remember the name if I find the discussion I post the link). It’s also possible that this is because in the past you might have installed simultaneously several versions of WIP on the same system, but now it makes more and an update from the last WIP).
The change of the updates could have solved the possible “conflict” between different versions of Rhino installed. Just my thought Mitch.

#11

I’m installing every WIP and so far I never had to copy/paste my work in a new file to make Rhinoceros work. The fact that the command icons don’t work, is at the least hilarious, because this IS the program…

It should be considered as a serious BUG by McNeel. There should be no excuse than taking this very serious to repair this problem before tomorrow when version 5D92W is expiring!

#12

This is a WIP and who installs it (myself included) and uses it should know that can have problems.
If a solution resolves the problem for me is enough. Copy and paste a file or part of it is a method that is well established (especially to resolve conflicts, corrruzioni or other) in a file

#13

I agree with the idea that it is called a WIP. And that bugs can appear is all in the game. In this case the program is practically not working when opening a file. That is not what I would call a BUG but a Blackout. It stops the fundaments of a (so this) program working…

I’m happy that you found a solution to work around, although I stay at my opinion that McNeel should very quickly solve this fundamental problem since version 5D92W is expiring tomorrow.

#14

I like to add that I work with a lot of layers, which makes copying a file to a new empty file difficult to control. All in all, it’s a problem which is urgent to solve.

#15

Same here, mouse fails to select command icons. Drop down menus function OK and selection of these using the mouse works.

Just found that sub menus in icons work OK, so can select the icon to reveal the drop down selections and can pick them, but single action icons can’t be selected.

They do work correctly on a new drawing created in this WIP version.

#16

that’s been happening to me as well but lately, i just hide the icons anyway so i forgot to report it… to get the rest of them back, try going to the top of that toolbar until the mouse cursor changes from the pointer to the one that looks sort of like this: <|>

drag the toolbar size to the right which will expose more of the icons then drag it back to the left and it should show them normally again.

but yeah, that’s probably something needing fixing

fwiw, my icons don’t work in the latest WIP either.

#17

yep, it’s totally fine to have both the official version and WIP installed… there’s been a change made recently which will only allow one to run at any given time… as in, even if you try to run both versions simultaneously, the second one will not launch unless you quit the first… this happens if trying to launch one when the other is already open:

Same - most icons not functioning with existing files…

Also - clicking from single to 4 view does not resolve equally. Presents as such:

(Dan Belcher) #20

Thanks for reporting this. We’re looking into it. Certainly looks like an El Capitan-only issue. We are not seeing it on macOS Sierra.

Please do not depend on the RhinoWIP for mission-critical work. You are free to update to macOS Sierra…we are not seeing this issue there.

We will look into this bug right away.

Best,
-Dan
