Hello,
I would like to “convert” live views to drafing views, using RIR and without passing through exporting to DWG.
This is the scenario.
We have a live section (with beams, floor, columns, levels grid lines) someone added a lot of 2d information (detail items, dimensions, hatches, symbols etc). We want this to become a fully 2d drafting view.
The 2d information can be cloned.
How can I transform the 3d info to 2d? One answer is export to CAD and read them back to the view.
Can I do anything in Revit RIR? I did not find any strategy yet…
You can use Element view Geometry Component to extract the 3D at a particular section view. Then extract the lines of 3D object and then create a 2d details using the Detail Line Component.
Thank @Muhammad_Saqlain_Awa
Very useful. I was hope to get direcly lines, hatches etc with their original types..
I guess it is not that straighforward right?
You can also filter those elements but what i understood you just needed to get section boundary lines from the 3d model.
Just for your information, Its always helpful to attach the source files it makes our work easy and we can easily provide the right solution. In case you can not share the files publicly you are always welcome to send us privately
My bad.
I am after converting a live view (say a section) into a drafting view. With the same appearance.
One option would be export to DWG and then convert the result into Revit geometry (lines, hatches, etc)
I can duplicate the 2d content of the Section (Detail items, hatches etc) but for the 3d I hope there was a quicker way rather than recreating lines, hatches etc manually in GH/RIR and then push them to Revit.
Thank you so much for taking the time to solve this specific case! Most appreciated.
It seems then the only way is to manually recreate these elements and push them to a view.
It does require a bit of work though to identify line stiles and hatches, for either cut or element in elevation.
I was reading a few Autodesk forum pages and it look this is a very old ongoing request…
Thanks
Yes it does. If you have already created these details in section views (as 2D) then you can simply use the clone element component and copy the details in drafting views.
