Regression: Blurry Inelegant Icons

@CalypsoArt are you talking about the dark mode icons or in general? Is your screen at a different scale than 100%?

As for the icons crispness, I’ve added this YT a couple hours ago:
RH-74684 Scale icons to fixed values so they appear crisp

My desktop is Win 11 with two Dell U3014 30" monitors at 2560x1600. VCard is nVidia GTX1060 6GB out to Displayport. Custom scaling set at 125. My Laptop is Win 11 with an nVidia RX2070, 17.3" FHD (1920x1080), 240Hz, IPS-Level, and 27" external monitor. Scaling is 100%. Icons are equally fuzzy on both machines in all modes, maybe slightly better in light mode, but nothing like the crispness of V7.

Can you post something like this as a comparison? This is a crop from 2560 x 1600 screen @150%:
On this screen the V8 icons look stronger, but crisper, do you agree on that?

@CalypsoArt do you have the same icon size set in both machines and what is the pixel size you are using? In the above example I have set icons to 24 pixels in Toolbar settings.

Both machines are set to 24. These are take from my desktop at 2560x1600 @ 125 scaling. They in no way look as good as what you posted.

WIP8_DK2

Is that the latest WIP? The colors for the main menu and application title changed slightly in the very latest WIP and it looks like you may be still on last week’s build.

I’m in the same situation as you, it seems to be a problem with the 2K resolution

That is the build I installed today.

Today’s build is (8.0.23129.12305, 2023-05-09). The images look a little off from what I was expecting, but that could be a different bug

@CalypsoArt Here is a screenshot of my 2560 x 1600 @125%, next to V7 with large icons, and next to that your screenshot. Do you have a highly customized workspace, otherwise can you do a _Reset and reset toolbar customizations?

Cheers Steve. Afraid I’m not seeing any/much difference at 125% on the 2023-05-09 build from my previous test. Also note how the Grasshopper2 icons look sharper/better than the Rhino 8 icons, I wonder if that’s simply because of their design/SVG files:

A post was split to a new topic: Blurred / Eroded StatusBar

There is still work to be done here obviously; we’ll get there.

I do have a customized workspace with custom Icons I made for tools for plugin tools. However, as it is, I’m not using WIP8 because of this. What would you hope to determine should I reset? It is obvious from your post the V7 looks way better. The same I have here.

Here is the exact same area in 7 and 8 on my desktop @125%
V7_02
V8_01

I’m confused with the screenshot you show in v8. Those icons look from before a change was made to the icons to give them a gray outline.
Running Reset and choosing remove toolbar customizations should improve things.
That being said there is still something to fix regarding crispness of the icons but that’s a different issue from what you are showing here.

Here is what I’m on. Should that not be the latest?

OK, I’ve reset WIP8. The icons look better. But still not as crisp and finessed as V7.

@CalypsoArt Yes that looks more like it. If you now try to set your display to 100, 150 or 200% then you get to see what the crispness should be. There is a bug right now that makes things blurrier than needed at other scales.
In general v7 will look different. V8 has stronger icons.
To get closer to how the icons look in v7, if that’s your preference, you can start with a default light template and tweak colors like you did in v7.

When I last tried to tweak in WIP, the advanced keys for color where not there. I read they were moved but I couldn’t find them.

This is a start:

Hi @Gijs and @stevebaer, I installed the Rhino 8 Beta (8.0.23255.13163, 2023-09-12) and noticed some new behavior that might be relevant to fixing the blurry icon issue. Specifically I now get nice crisp icons at 150% with even value sized button image icons. However things are still blurry at 125% and 140% (and at 150% with uneven values). Also I would again note how the Grasshopper 2 icons look crisp at all display scales:

150% Display Scaling

125% Display Scaling

140% Display Scaling

Here’s the uncompressed images in a zipped folder on Dropbox.

Best,
