RefitTrim not working because "Brep can only have one face"

Hi,
I am pretty new to rhino so apologies if I am missing something obvious.

I have a fairly messy polysurface that I want to clean up and rebuild. I am trying to use the RefitTrim command so that I can then merge multiple surfaces so that I can eventually rebuild the merged surfaces into a more uniform and cleaner single surface.

I can’t merge edges because rhino says “Can’t merge trimmed edges of surfaces” so I’m trying to refit them but with the RefitTrim command rhino says “Selected Brep can only have one face” I don’t know what this means or if I can change something to make this work.

I’ve been searching around and can’t find anyone that has referenced the message “Selected Brep can only have one face” There seems to be a few definitions of what a Brep is and isn’t depending on who you ask.

Can anyone give me some advice on this issue?
Thank you!

Hi Asymm -

Thanks, that term should probably not be used in feedback from that command. I’ve added a note to ticket RH-71892 RefitTrim feedback on fail

Hi Wim,

Thank you. I am still trying to understand why the RefitTrim command doesn’t work on the surface that I’m using it on. When does this work and when does it not? I’ve experimented with it a little and noticed that it doesn’t work on some simple geometry. For example a single plane trimmed with a circle. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Hi Asymm -

Please always post a 3dm file when you have an issue that you need help with.

@Asymm current limitation for refitting to work is that the surface can only have one trimmed side.
There are ideas to improve this and this is logged as
