Reference DWG layer visibilty doesn't stick

I have an imported & linked DWG used as an underlay. I turn off certain layers, save and close the file. When I reopen, the layers I turned off in Rhino are turned back on again.

Is there a way for Rhino to remember DWG link layers and save them, even if they’re different to the layer visibility in AutoCAD?

it may be worth trying LayerStateManager - I cannot remember if that works in this case.
