From update to update the “extend srf” command works intermittently. In a SR suddenly the “out” extension no longer works, or it extends up to a certain point, or it does not cut the surface with the merge option. It’s a continuous disaster!
Is it possible that this command cannot work well? I test it from version to version, from SR to SR and I always find problems.
For example, in the latest version of Rhino 8 you cannot extend beyond the edge, but only works towards the inside of the surface.
We had this on the list as RH-83755 ExtendSrf: Failure cases
This is fixed in 8.13.
-wim
Not to be argumentative… this bug will be fixed in the next SR, but surely something else will not work well. Since the early days of Rhino 7 I test this command, and I always find that something never works as it should. Every SR is a surprise (in a negative way).
If we did this with every command present it would be the end for any CAD. The bug can appear, it is part of the complex development of a software, but not in fits and starts, one version yes and two no, etc.
In my humble opinion, for a Nurbs modeler, the surface creation and editing commands should work flawlessly, and not imprecisely or piecemeal.
!!!..Crash Alert…!!!
_______________________update issue seems to be fixed in today’s build SR14 2024-11-1 (Rhino 8, 8.14.24306.18001)
@davide76 prophecy came true!
1- Open the attached file
ExtendSrf Crash.3dm (96.3 KB)
2- Run the ExtendSrf on this edge.
The crash bug is indeed fixed in 8.14, as it was found a couple of weeks ago.
We still have a lock up bug on the list with ExtendSrf, which hopefully gets addressed soon as well.
@davide76 if you have cases you run into that don’t work it is always helpful to send them in.
