Problems with sun shadows in rendered mode

Hi, I’m having a problem with sun shadows and I need to know if a re-install would help.

now i have looked everywhere, checked and unchecked everything.
any ideas?
also - yes, the renderer is set to rhino render, shadows are on in display mode settings, hardware acceleration is on and i have a capable video card.
also - notice i should have a gradient as the background - as specified in the display settings. But gradients don’t work anymore. I’ve had this problem for quite some time now, but have been putting it off, so i’m not sure what triggered it. I’m quite reluctant to reinstall, but if that’s the only way, i’ll do it. Help?

In the settings for your Rendered display mode, be sure that the lighting method is set to scene lighting:

So now i’ll abuse that kindness :slight_smile: what do you think about the gradient background? It still doesn’t show up. I know it’s unrelated to the main question, but maybe…
