Problem with exporting organic object to .STL

Hi all,

I’m new to Rhino, just started about a week ago. I have made an organic model and I intend to export to Cura for 3D Printing. However, every time I export it under .STL, when i preview the mesh model there are weird floating planes that appears.

I have tried exporting it to Cura regardless. Though it still appears in the preparation phase in Cura, when I slice and preview the model, it doesn’t seem to be printing these floating planes. However, I am worried and I want to do things the right way and understand what is going on.

Hi Dylan - please post your Rhino model.

Hi Pascal, Apologies for the late reply. Here is my Rhino model.

Model 1.3dm (766.0 KB)

i’d check this model, you have non-manifold edges

I just did a quick search about what non-manifold edges were. From what i’m understanding, there are 2 faces at the around highlighted pink? Is it bad to have them, is this caused by my construction method?

How i built this model was making 3 separate parts and joining them together after I was done.

And How should I avoid creating this non-manifold edges again?

if you explode a copy of the model you can see there are some overlaping faces. I deleted them and joined everything and now it’s a closed polysrf

Model 1_v02.3dm (732.8 KB)

Oh i see, its so much clearer now what was wrong with my model. Thank you for your time ! I learnt alot
