I was working on a project in Rhino 7 when I downloaded the Rhino 8 demo . The pen display in layouts worked much better in R8 so I continued in R 8 with no problems until I tried to print a couple of layouts . Sometimes the line types were excessivly fat and other times details would be missing . I tried several pdf creators as well as my two printers and no luck . This was a breeze in R7 so I tried saving my project in R7 format and it just crashed R7 . I’m planning to buy the R8 upgrade , but am wondering if all of my printing issues are because I’m using a trial version ?
There have been changes and ongoing improvements in this department so please keep up to date. If you can post a small file of what you are seeing and your systemInfo we can take a look. Thanks
The trial version is an expiring license on a fully functional Rhino instance.
part I.D pdf light.pdf (555.4 KB)
This is the type of output I’m getting with the details in layout set to pen
I believe the bug you are seeing is something I just fixed yesterday. Here is a build of Rhino that should fix the printed pen display output

Thankyou for the update !! It’s working the way that I expected it to now
When I actually printed the pdf that I created with Rhino PDF creator I got this at 1 1/12 scale on my HP plotter . I think this still needs work . When I printed directly to the plotter with the plotter driver the resolution was fine .
HI Mike -
But what does the PDF look like? We’ll need a 3dm file if more work is required here…
-wim
the pdf looks fine on a screen resolution , but I email PDF files to be printed by clients . I’d be happy to send the 3dm file , —Do I drag it to the window here ? or email it ?
This is the same layout as above , only sent directly to my plotter . The error seems to be in the creation of the pdf file from the layout
Hi Mike -
If you don’t mind the 3dm file being public, yes, please just drag it into the window here. Else, there’s Rhino - Upload to Support
-wim
The file is to big to drag here , I’ll upload it . the file is called deck plans with sections
sorry I didn’t have an email to send it to , I uploaded it without an email
I’d had the same issue and noticed that that was fixed, so thanks for the fix, Steve. Unfortunately, there is a new issue now where the lines show up as the layer color instead of black when I go to PDF a viewport using the Pen display mode.
Hi Craig -
I can’t reproduce this in a quick test here. Could you provide both the output of the Rhino SystemInfo
command and a simple 3dm file that shows the behavior?
-wim
Here you go.
TEST.3dm (11.2 MB)
In the Rhino file, you’ll see the cover page viewport using the Pen display mode shows up correctly before printing, but in the print preview the edge lines change to using the color associated with each object’s layer.
