Previews Still Missing in Apple Sequoia Jan. 15, 2025

I just updated my Rhino with today’s update, restart and I am still missing file previews in my folders? Please help. I’ve been patient thinking the next update will solve this issue? This is impacting my professional workflow since I number files as I design. Thank you

I don’t have this issue with any other software other than Rhino? Could this relate to Apple Quicklook? Which after installing Sequoia, I noticed Affinity Apps asked for my approval in order to view files. This was new to me.

Hi bule -

This issue is on the list as RH-84357 Mac on Sequoia 15.0.1 Missing Thumbnails
The developer is hoping to take a look at this for Rhino 9 at some point.

This is related to Quicklook, yes.

Same problem here…

Alright Wim, thank you for that update. This will be addressed in Rhino 9? How far out is this expected to be released? I cannot see any of my files, years of work, thousands of files, all blank? I cannot stress how important this aspect is for those of us who are professionals, depending on this feature.

Some users have issues with the older QuickLook Generator plugins no longer working on Sequoia. QuickLook Generators were compatible with Mojave and earlier.

Unfortunately, if you have this issue, you will continue to see generic icons rather than Thumbnails.

As @wim shared, issue RH-84357 is open and assigned to the Rhino developers who are investigating what Rhino can provided to resolve this issue.

Stay tuned.
Hope this helps.

I noticed the missing previews too. I’m out of my league here, however FWIW i find if i do a manual save (Cmd S) before closing i can see all the previews.

This is interesting JP, so you’re seeing some previews, but not all?

I wish this worked for my case. I am completely in the dark, required to open each file, one at a time to view the contents? Imagine my work time lost?
A true File organization Nightmare.

Hi Bule, I am on v9, an intel mac, sonoma. It works every time if i do the manual save before closing. This also shows up in the Mac finder, i can scroll down and see all the file previews.
The ones that show A Rhino are where the file was closed without the manual save first.
Manual saving was a habit picked up from Vectorworks, lost to much time when it froze, so left hand is saving all the time. Rhino growls at me sometimes for saving too much!

Hi JP -

Do you ever make use of the macOS “versioning” system to go back to an earlier version?
We have a test feature where we turn off this versioning system. Obviously, this puts the responsibility of saving at key points in the hands of the user…
When TestToggleMacAutosaveVersions is used to turn this off, Rhino will stop telling you to save so much.

Hi Wim, I don’t use the mac versioning feature. Probably a hang over from past experience and wanting to know which file i am working on. More than once i have gone back quite a few versions of self versioned files to copy paste or start again. (A self managed system which is easy to organise, if you will)
I tend to duplicate a file and then date in the finder for my versioning if i think it’s required
‘250119 File example’ (today) this then sorts itself automatically in the finder.

I had a look for the TestToggleMacAutosaveVersions however could not find it or looking in the wrong place if you could point me please.

Hi JP -

It’s a test command, meaning that it’s not documented and won’t autocomplete. You need to either type it in completely or copy-paste from here.

There were same prpblems with the affinity suite with OS Sequoia - they are able to fix it two month ago or so- this seems to be a kund if Apple related thing.

Is Sequoia officially supported [yet]?

Hi John -

Yes, it is.

Thanks, I don’t like being a software pioneer.

Manual save doesn’t help me.

RH-84357 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 17

Wonderful news, thank you Brian and to the team

Yep, same problem here and with each update to the mac OS, still nothing. I had to go back to a PC to be able to see the thumbnails. It is a make or break feature that I rely on for making jewellery. Sometimes I go thru 30+ incremental saves and it is crucial to see all prior versions.
