PlaceMaker for Rhino

Hi everyone,

I’m Dale from mind.sight.studios and new to this forum. I wanted to let you know that we have a new web-based version of PlaceMaker that is currently in beta-testing. Up until now, PlaceMaker was an add-on only available for SketchUp and Revit users.

PlaceMaker now allows Rhino users to easily import 3D data from Google Earth (without an API key) and 3D OSM, as well as high resolution aerial imagery from sources such as Nearmap, Mapbox and Hexagon. Here is a short video demonstrating the workflow for Rhino users. Just download your data on the web and drag / drop into Rhino.

The beta is currently available to test for free at:

Just sign-up, and you’ll be good to go.

Other features include:

  • Terrain import
  • Point Cloud import
  • AI Features extracted from high-resolution imagery

I’m very interested to know if Rhino users would like a Rhino-specific plugin developed for PlaceMaker for even more seamless integration. Among other things, a Rhino plugin could be used to merge / drape imported data onto terrain and optimize the data to better suit Rhino workflows. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks!
