Picture Frame now Picture in V8 but where is width entry?

Hi, V8,
in V5 it was Picture Frame, have used it thousands of times.
In V8 its Picture.
but then the steps ARE CONFUSING AS HELL, when before it was SIMPLE.

used to be
Picture Frame
click ,then paste in length (captured to clipboard from Pshop image size length inches)
rotate to hrz. job done.

now in V8 its ‘first corner of picture,
click,
other corner or length, paste in the width in inches held on clipboard ( from Pshop Width data),
width, press enter to use length…eh what ???

but I have already pasted in the width, and I dont want the length as the width as its rectangular, and being a photo which is needed as the shape it is, one dim is enough to dictate that ! so whats it asking for now ??? :rage:

before it was happy with the width, that set the proportional shape.

I am expected to enter a value at the first ask, then it wants another.

before it knew the picture would be enough to have the length entered, as who wants to distort a photo !

so just when do I enter the width and what the heck do I do for the 2nd or first ask ,as length in my book is the distance from left to right, so to then be asked for width afterwards.

totally bewildered.

I have one value, the width of the picture from east to west, on my clipboard, it only holds one value, carried across from Pshop, so just when to enter it and what else ?

such a simple comand messed up !

HELP.

Steve

I can’t make sense of this.

Have you tried “Picture” → “Centre”, click a centre point location, and then just type in your width holding shift key, and then Enter?

The above method gives you whatever width you want, and keeps the aspecr ratio as whatever the image is in the clipboard.

Alternatively, you can just save the picture and drag it onto the CPlane from the folder system I think. But I am not at my desk right now.

Steve,

What you refer to as Width is now called Length, so my picture will be 50 units wide.

Note that if you want a picture to come in actual size, you also have the 1to1 option - where you don’t have to enter any distance.

Also, if you drag out the second corner, the picture maintains its proportions (so you can just drag sideways if you want). Unless you hold the shift key down while dragging, in which case you can stretch the image one way or the other.

Also, the “width” of the picture has always been called Length in Rhino.

And the things you see as being different in R8 may not be new to R8. The Picture changes you see came in with R6. You are going to find a lot of things like that because you are leapfrogging versions. But for other people who have already seen in prior versions the things you are now querying, it may be hard to comprehend your issues.

Hi,
I will forget having to copy paste in the width from Photoshop and just get used to clicking 1to1 !
so a browse and a click , job done, as before.

HOWEVER MY V8 DOESNT SHOW THAT 1:1 OPTION :rage:

this below is what I get
v8 OPTIONS pICTURE LACKS 1TO1 OF JEREMY

and I am UP TO DATE.

I can imagine those that havent enjoyed V5, accept what they had with V6, I come from a time when things were basically intuitive, good looking lines as one expected in CAD, images without pixelation, lines that didnt need converting to deg2 each time one was made from a mesh, snaos that worked over a mesh, and other things that have since been broken.

Thanks
Steve

still are:
picture frame
(and you can indeed see the “1to1” option before the first corner click…)

Hi Steve -

Apparently, that’s the case for some jpg images. Saving as png might help.
The issue is on the list as RH-81665 No 1 to 1 option on some jpg files

If you can share an image, I can add it to the ticket.

Hi,
image is

in that case then , as I work in .jpg

I can’t import an image as 1:1..
so what are the steps to bring in an image of a width copied to the clipboard of this image
Width 4.817inches
?

so I do this, and when I go ctrl v and paste in my 4.817 its as per image posted, I then hold shift and hit enter and the shape is wrong.

Steve

Why hold shift? As I explained earlier Shift is used to stretch the picture in one direction. Put in the number and just hit Enter.

I followed David’s advice.

Steve

Don’t! (in this instance)

Simple method is to import the image and then scale it:

Picture command and import the image. Don’t try for any particular size.

Scale command.
Select the picture.
Base point - Click on the lower left corner
First reference point - Click on the lower right corner
Second reference point - Type desired llength/width (4.817) and enter.

The picture will not have the desired dimension.

ok, dont it WITHOUT shift, and its the correct shape.

so my new Picture Frame is to be…
copy to clipboard width in same unit as Rhino file from Pshop.
command ‘Picture’
Browse to image
click centre option,
ctrl V the width from Pshop in.
hit enter

Steve

You can use the bottom left corner instead of the centre if that is more convenient. The Length entry works the same way.

ok

Cheers

Steve

My bad. I was trying to recall muscle memory away from my desk.
