Orientation of objects in views

I used the move command to move an object to 0,0,0 in the perspective view. Should the object be a 0,0 in all the other views? There are not for me.

Hi @John_Syre

Do you have AutoAlignCplanes enabled?
Did you move your cplane in perspective view?

Try moving your object to w0,0,0 this will move the part to world 0,0,0 not cplane 0,0,0 which is what your did.
If your object is aligned in your top, right and front views means your cplane moved and you were moving your object to cplane 0,0,0 which can be anywhere in world space. When you attached your image you didn’t include the bottom bar which has the coordinates.

When you type 0,0,0 that means cplane origin when you type w0,0,0 that means world origin.

Thanks for the reply. As I noted, still very new to rhino. Fairly skilled with sketchup, but rhino has so many more features and abilities, while I’m sure will be greatly appreciated in the future, it makes the learning curve a whole lot more than sketchup.

I will try your suggestions.

Hi @John_Syre
Don’t worry you’ll get the hang of it. Rhino’s complex but mostly logical compared to other programs. Just keep going and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Each viewport has it’s own Cplane with a local x-y-z coordinate system.
The default arrangement has the Top, Front and Right Cplanes with their origin at the world origin and orthogonal to each other.
Top: aligned with world x-y axis
Front: aligned with world x-z axis
Right: aligned with world y-z axis
Perspective: aligned with world x-y axis (same as default Top)

If you have Standard cplanes enabled then the viewport Cplanes are not linked. If you change one viewport’s Cplane the Cplanes in the other viewports are not affected.

If you have Universal Cplanes enabled then the viewport Cplanes are linked. When one Cplane is altered the Cplanes in the other viewports automatically change so that their relationship remains the same.
