Only snaps, no freehand drawing

rhin snapping

For some reason, Rhino sometimes does not let me draw free-hand, only allowing me to draw where there are snaps. Why is this and how do I turn it off?

Hei Espen -

It’s somewhat difficult to tell from that video but it looks like you might have a shallow angle to the CPlane in that viewport? You should be getting a “No Parking” icon in that case, though…
Can you save the file with that view (possibly delete all but a few objects that are required to reproduce this) and post that here?

Ha - I see that video was just changed into a new one that does show the “No Parking”. So, yes, your mouse pointer is not falling on the CPlane and you are therefore not able to place a point.

I understand. The Cplane then is possibly above or behind the camera angle? Thanks for the answer!

Heia -

From the looks of it, I’d say it’s above. The “behind” is not really a thing as the CPlane is infinite. The grid that is on the CPlane is limited in size and might be behind the camera. I often find it useful to make sure that the grid is large enough to be visible anywhere I’m modeling (especially when using the AutoCPlane feature) but have a display mode that doesn’t show it at all. Likely turning it off in the mode that I mostly work in and on in a display mode that I can easily switch to with a keyboard shortcut.
