Nesting parts

Hi Group

if i have a design that is a 3d stack of 2d plates which are all different shapes and i want to spread them all out in one 2d top view is there a simple way to do this? that is free?

i have seen rhino nest is £800 ish and at this point i don’t want to spend that… any help would good.

Hello - if these are individual surfaces, try:

  1. NonManifoldMerge all
  2. UnrollSrf the result.

Hi Gijs - it makes a disjoint (if that is what the input is) brep that can be unrolled all at once by UnrollSrf. Cheesy shortcut but it works… There is no nesting of course but it should get the surfaces laid out flat.

Hi Pascal, this didn’t work but i don’t think i was clear on my description…
I had a stack of parts that were extrusions each one being 3mm thick like a metal plate stack.
but i found the “disperse” tool which spread them out then I just project them down to the Cplane.
works ok in this initial trial.
