Multiple materials on one object

Hello,
I have a big wish:
I would like to be able to assign different materials to individual surfaces of a solid (extrusion object/polysurface) without having to extract them .
to my knowledge this is not possible right now, or have I missed something?

not possible yet, but I believe there is some work being done on this topic for future release.

Hi Andreas - in V6 you can sub-object select a face and assign a material to it from the Materials panel by right clicking on the material and choosing ā€˜Assign to selection.’

Thank you guys for the info, since r6 is (and will be for some time…) still in development, do you think it might be possible that this can be implemented in a service relase? Or is it to much of a ā€œcoreā€ function?
I could use this very much in all of my projects, for walls, ceilings and alike. …
Right now I have to use some pretty unnecessary workarounds (double walls etc.) for this problems.

Please😭

Andreas

not for extrusion, just polysurfaces, in v5

Around here, rendering is only done - if at all - at the end of a project. A lot of visualization is done before that and as such, I wish that this functionality can be expanded to include object color and not just material.

What’s the latest on this? Subobject materials would save a lot of unnecessary modelling for arch viz

Have you tried it? It should work as explained in this topic.

Hi Wim - this is on the pile of things to look into but not before V7 I’m afraid…
