In v7 and v8, just a single middle-button mouse click brought up the on-screen pop-up, then allowed me to move the cursor at my leisure to choose an icon and left- or right-click it.
Now in Beta v9, a single, quick middle-button click pulls up the pop-up, but by releasing the middle mouse button (i.e. just a quick click), the center icon is automatically chosen as if it was a left-button click. In the default pop-up, this “click” changes the display view to a Shaded view. If I had intended to mouse over the pop-up to the Explode icon, I have to hold down the middle mouse button until I’ve moved the cursor over to the Explode icon, then let go of the middle mouse button. Then Rhino thinks I’ve “left-clicked” the Explode icon. Worse yet, if I wanted the Extract command (vs Explode), then I have to hold down the middle mouse button while I move the mouse to the Explode icon, then while still holding down the middle mouse button, I have to right-click the Explode icon to get the Extract command. Not easy. Please correct it back to v8’s functionality.

Dunno, after a couple of recent rounds of fixes, the latest V9 Beta (yesterday/today) behavior is more or less identical to V8 and earlier, as far as I can tell.

Middle-clicking and immediately releasing the button pops up the toolbar and leaves it on-screen without executing a command. You can then left or right click on any of the buttons to run a command, hit Esc to make it disappear, or left-click on the title bar and move it a bit to make it stay up on screen until closed.

Middle-clicking and holding the button down pops up the toolbar, then hovering over a button and releasing will execute the left mouse button command of that button.
if I understood correctly, the time delay for the switch between the simple middle click and the hold-down behavior is hard-coded in V8 and earlier. I think @CallumSykes is adding an option to allow the user to adjust this delay setting in V9.
This is correct. It’s in Options > Toolbars > Buttons > Middle Mouse Hold Delay
Can you tell me which version you’re using @FlynnAD, if you’re not on the latest you may have a buggy version.
I suggest to set the “Context menu delay” time to a value smaller than 100 milliseconds for a more responsive experience.

This screen-shot is from the latest Rhino 9 BETA, but I use 15 milliseconds in Rhino 7. The default value of 250 milliseconds is way too slow IMO.
Version 9.0.26202.12303, 2026-7-21, which is likely out of date.
Upon installing it, I believe I clicked on “don’t update” which was the wrong choice. But now, in Rhino Options/ Updates and Statistics, the Update Frequency and Check Now… are both grayed out and inaccessbile. Is the only way to update this beta version to uninstall it and reinstall the new one?
It looks like you have set DisableInternetAccess to True in your registry which is why you can’t change that checkbox.
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\McNeel\ is the registry folder
DisableInternetAccess is the key.
