Mercator option to better 2D plan a compound curved surface in smash or UnrollSrf or CreateUVcurve command?

Hi,
V5
In the youtube video

a Rhino tutor shows use of three ways of unfolding objects .
On the compound curve, is there not a command that creates a Mercator style result for a sphere, such as the Mercator map of the world, with panels a bit like those of a hot air balloon ?
One could indicate the number of ‘faces’, and lines of cut perhaps, just a thought !

in this video these stages could be used perhaps combined into a command ?

Also just what is the difference in the first two (smash and UnrollSrf) , when is best for one or the other ?

Cheers

Steve

You use UnrollSrf for developable surfaces and Smash for double-curved surfaces.
