Hi
I took a look at UI Matrix Gold
It has features and is very professionally organized
I was hoping Rhino would be like this
Thanks
How are they even able to do this? Is this not a plug-in for Rhino? Can a plug-in replace the entire UI? Or are they just using the existing UI way better than what McNeel is able to?
(And of course, it looks amazing… unlike V8…)
Sure. All you need to do is make your own custom toolbars with your own custom icons and commands, as well as your own custom panels with the graphics and layouts as you want… Have at it…
MatrixGold looks like a lovely and slick interface.
Rhino is very functional, but it reminds me of when many companies got stuck on the Microsoft Office 2008 UI. Microsoft moved on eventually, but some software ended up stuck with this heavily gradient-driven UI, which dated incredibly fast.
Honestly, I’ve been fighting with various aspects with Rhino V8 UI and viewport, I often find myself relieved when I can jump into the simple and clean bella GUI for rendering. I even do much of my material management in there and backport it to Rhino, because of the mess of the viewport updating scheme.
What Rhino reminds me of is some of the more obscure older CAM and CAD programs, which have maintained a good user base, and remain very functionally okay. SmartCAM is a good example. Only SmartCAM employs about 10 people I think, not 100.
Fine. Here’s a question. When I was very young, I started in a program called Anim8or, which is developed by one guy by himself for over 20 years.

This is a little over the top considering its very basic functions, but why does Anim8or, developed by one guy in his spare time, match and even almost exceed the Rhino UI for aesthetic quality/modernity?
