Material Search Performance Issues in Rhino

Hi,

I’ve been using Rhino for about 6 months now, and one thing that has been frustrating me is the long waiting times for many actions, especially when working with materials.

For example, when I search for a material in the dropdown (let’s say “black”), it can take up to a minute before the first letter even appears in the search box. Once I finally find what I’m looking for, the same delay happens again when I try to change the material on the next object. It feels like all the materials are being re-rendered every time, making the workflow extremely slow.

With the latest release (8.13.24282.10001), this issue has gotten even worse. It seems like Rhino doesn’t cache the materials or optimize the material editor, making the process feel outdated, almost like something from the 80s.

Additionally, where are all the materials coming from? The materials list fills up quickly with items I’ve never created, especially when using worksession. It clutters the workspace and makes it difficult to find what I need.

Is there any way to improve this? Perhaps caching the materials or a more efficient rendering system could help. Any advice or solutions would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Torbjorn
