Lighting suggestions

I’m hoping some one with lighting experience could give me some pointers to help cut down on my trial and error.

This part of a model that I’d like to light in rhino. The rectangular objects would be attached to a plexi surface, that surface would have space between it and the back wall. I’d like to illuminate the wall face and the front of the plexi/objects. However, I thought I understood the light options, but it seems not. For example, I assumed a rectangular light would give even light over the rectangular shape. Apparently not, the hot spot is from the rectangular light.

Any suggestions on which lights to use that would not give hotspots?

Hello - is the image a screen capture of a rendered viewport? If so, please try a raytraced viewport or a full render and see how that looks.
