Leaders - Add / Delete Control Points

Is it possible to add or delete the control points of leaders?

Use case example: I’m drawing curved leaders using the ‘spline’ curve type to illustrate airflow in a layout. I currently have to re-draw the leader every time I want to change the number of control points.

Leaders seem to behave exactly like polylines or splines except you can’t insert or remove control points.
I was initially trying to use the arrowhead command on a regular spline but there is no option to scale the arrowhead or change its style (which is fine if leaders work as desired).

Is it possible to add this functionality to leaders?

I believe you are looking for the “Add Curve Point” button in the Leader settings?

Ok, strange that it’s a different workflow but I’ll take it.

It still doesn’t solve my main issue of being able to remove control points. Is this in another strange place? Why doent it work to simply press delete?

I’m not sure too be honest. I primarily use Grasshopper and when I create leader I use referenced Rhino Curves which means I can add/remove control points as needed.

I agree that it seems counter intuitive to not be able to simply press delete on a control point.

Perhaps we are both missing something

Hi Nick / Michael -

What am I doing differently?

Using a Spline instead of a Polyline when setting the Leader Curve Type.

I just tested with the spline and am able to delete the control points as you show here but, while I can select the control points on a polyline leader, delete does not do anything.

Thanks @wim

PS: What GIF software do you use?

@wim You’re using a spline with an arrowhead and text.

I was talking specifically about the control points of a leader. It doesn’t make sense that they are not editable in the same way. Is it possible to apply the same functionality of deleting/adding control points as polylines/splines?

The useful thing about leaders is the ability to scale and format the arrowhead based on styles. Something “arrowhead” doesn’t allow.

I think he is actually using a leader with the curve type set to Spline:

Ok, this started working again for me. Nevermind. I swear it wasn’t when I posted this

@michaelvollrath @wim I know where I went wrong. I was working between Rhino 7 and 8 at the time.

In 7 it’s not possible to delete a control point of a leader with the delete key.
In 8 this works which is a great!

To counter this… in testing again I can no longer delete control points on Polyline leaders OR Spline leaders yet when I replied to Wim I could delete spline points but not polyline points. Odd…

I think something else is going on (I’ve only been testing in R8 btw)

It appears that in both V7 and the current V8, control points of a leader without text can be modified but not deleted. It is the same for the spline or polyline forms.

If the leader has text, control points can be either modified or deleted.

Let me know if you see something different. This looks mostly like a bug, unless there is a specific reason that I don’t know about why leaders without text have to be treated differently.

A workaround is just to add a single space in the text box for leaders without text, they then become fully editable

This is repeatable on my end as well, thank you @Helvetosaur !

Didn’t find an already open issue, so I filed a bug report for this:
